The Toyota Prius can now parallel park by itself. Or at least mostly. This is sort-of-cool in general. It also makes me think of a project students did in CS148, a robotics AI course I TAed at Brown. One of the final projects was a parallel parking car that used ultrasound sensors to sense its surroundings. The technology in the Prius is no doubt a sophisticated version of that same basic idea. It's nice to see the things we learn actually manifest in the real world benefitting the Japanese.
