OK. Remember when I said I wanted to start wushu training again? (A couple of days ago). Well, I was serious. I still am. But OW!
First learned lesson: you can't just pick up old things at the drop of a hat. Even if you pick it up, you better do it slowly and carefully. As applied to wushu: I can NOT kick as high, as fast, or as without pain as I did before. All my ligaments have tightened up and just doing front kicks was H A R D!
And after I did half my old routine anyway (got tired after a bit), I hurt like a shiri (that's butt in Japanese) in the morning. Not hurt, just sore from stretching out my tendons like a rubber band. And all those muscles you didn't know existed hurt too. Heck, I felt like my femur hurt. Oy.
All this combined with getting back into weight lifting has me walking around like an old man all stiff like. One incentive is that I stretch a lot now every morning and evening and even when I'm reading. Tip: if you want to get used to flexibility fast, get a book, put your foot up on a dresser and lean forward till it hurts, read book to forget about pain for a couple of minutes, switch your feet, then repeat. I think I'm a good 2% closer to doing a split and hurting my groin than I was yesterday. YES!
