During my trip to LA, I picked up a couple of books at a place called, since I didn't see any other title on the store "Big Book Sale". The selection was fairly poor (no Roth! no Ishiguro! They might have had Robert Jordan though...*shudder*) but I managed to find some possible gems.
First we have Lies - A Diary (1986-1999) by Ned Rorem. Rorem is a composer who I would have not even heard of had Megan not done some a presentation on him in Bibliography. In any case, he's supposed to be a fun guy to read mainly because he doesn't mind taking shots at anyone and everyone. His earlier diaries are, I would assume, better to us music nerds since he was around Paris and with all the big shots at one point. Still, should be amusing.
Next up is Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain is the chef from "A Cook's Tour", if that rings a bell. I've always liked to cook and A Cook's Tour, along with Iron Chef and Good Eats have always amused me to no end. So I thought I'd take a chance with Bourdain's writing.
And the best part? They weren't expensive at all. The Rorem came in at $7.00 and the Bourdain clocked a 5.0. Hey, it was a book sale...though not necessarily a good book sale, what with the plethora of celine dion books...
