Sponge Bob in the Netherlands
So Google has this funky thing where they take fun stats from their searches to represent the zeitgeist of a period of time. Not surprisingly, they call it, duh, Zeitgeist. It's a fun little thing to visit every once in a while. Well, they have a 2003 year edition up. A lot of the search spikes were predictable BUT:

What??? The top query from the Netherlands was about Sponge Bob Square Pants??? Dear God WHY?!?

Comments

In German

zeit = time
geist = spirit

So one can't really say 'zeitgeist of a period of time'

Whoa. An Editor has visited my site =P

The term is defined in English by Merriam-Webster's CollegiateŽ Dictionary as "the general intellectual, moral, and cultural climate of an era." For example, the Zeitgeist of the 60s. The 60s is a period of time. It seems to me that we can have the Zeitgeist (if we're using the word in an English context, that is) of a time. Who's right? I ( don't know. But this is my blog and one (I) can be say whatever I want, be it retarded or not, if I want to =P
