Went to a recital tonight of a collaborative pianist (great recital, by the way). A Beethoven cello sonata heard there reinforced what I've been thinking about lately: piano and *gasp* OTHER instruments. Now not only am I a poor pianist, my knowledge of repertoire in general is shameful. I get all giddy about a piano-cello piece because, well, I don't hear many of them, though I should.
So, I was browsing around the stacks the other day and thought of the Beethoven Violin Sonata No. 7 in c minor, 1st movement. I think I first heard it for a midterm or something and I've loved it ever since. That the recording I have is by Perlman and Ashkenazy makes it all the better. I got the score out and gave the violin part to the obliging Anita, who said she'd learn it if I did. Whee.
This is a fun piece. It's one of those pieces I can listen to over and over again. I just love it. Since I doubt people who are reading this site (all 5 of you) will go out and get a recording (what a hassle!), here it is in mp3. Go listen to it. Try it. You'll like it. I hope. Perhaps dareka has come across this during his violin studies?

There's a set with Itzhak Perlman and Vladimir Ashkenazy that I highly recommmend. I think it's under the "Jubilee" label. The set has all the Beethoven violin sonatas.
On a somewhat related note, practicing violin in the dorms/apartments is NOT cool. Esepcially when it sounds horrible...like somebody close to me now is doing...oh god...ugh...it's flat and sounds permanently sul ponticello col legno...
