I know they mention it but come on people, it's a concept and it's Cage. Though there was a performance of Cage's work, 4'33" (or something to that effect), it's the idea that was important. You need only post it on your website. Like "this is how to perform our piece, mp3 player not needed." True, anyone should be able to download it and concert goers probably paid more for the Cage piece. Still, to charge 99 cents for a copy and not broadcast to people that it's silence...I dunno. It's not even a nod to Cage, really, it IS Cage, only not so well done. Cage had a captive audience in a hall paying attention to the music. With today's mass dissemination of what is expected to be "pop" music, who's going to sit still for however long this piece is going to be?

and besides, they're buying *sonic youth* music. Shoot, for most people the fact that they ripped off Cage for a track instead of squealing away 20 minute distortion epics is probably a salve to their ears. (as we all know, sy is my favorite american band)

Hehe. Well said. Thing is though, maybe, for people whose sonic reference IS distortion, I could see how silence could be disconcerting.
