More an entry for myself than anything else (perhaps to keep track of my progress or lack thereof?). The Scriabin Sonata No. 4 has been keeping me busy for a while now. Granted, it's not an easy piece, but it's been an assy year (as Russell would say) for piano. Haven't been able to focus on practicing much, so the only new thing I've learned is a Rachmaninoff Etude Tableaus (Eb minor) and half of a Beethoven Sonata (No. 6). The Scriabin almost counts as new since as bad as it still is, it is much better than when I came to UCSB. But new horizons beckon!

Talked to Egle today about summer plans and she suggested that I pick out some reasonable pieces (i.e. NOT the Rachmaninoff 3rd) to tackle. To my pleasant surprise, she mentioned Jeux d'Eau and Pavane by Ravel. Jeux d'Eau, Egle claims, is in some ways much easier than the Scriabin. Perhaps, but I'm willing to wager that it's much harder in more ways. It sounds hard but she says it's easier than it sounds. Here's hoping. The Pavane is technically less challenging but requires more expressive control. I'll probably end up practicing the Jeux d'Eau and choosing something else by myself (NOT the Prokofiev Toccata. No. Bad Luke). Thank the Lord I'll have a piano to play on in my summer housing, but that's a story for a later date.
