I watch porn
...documentaries.

Netflix has been wonderful so far and 2 movies that I've watched recently were 1) Porn Star: The Ron Jeremy Legend and 2) Sex: The Annabel Chong Story. Some background for those who are not in the porn industry, unlike me, known far an wide as...something...ok, this joke isn't going anywhere.

Ron Jeremy is apparently the most famous male porn star. He's not particularly dashing, or even "good looking," he's a bit chubby, and he's nicknamed "the hedgehog" because of how hairy he is, especially on his back. Regardless, he's a pretty big name, not only in the porn industry but in popular consciousness. The documentary is fairly sympathetic to his chunk of psychological ills. He really wants to be a mainstream actor (for which he really tries hard), and he wants to be the center of attention but that's pushed him into porn. He's certainly a smart guy but he's lonely and miserable.

Annabel Chong, on the other hand, is known for being the first woman to sleep with 251 men in 10 hours (well, the first one taped anyway, who knows what them olde people did). Within the first 5 minutes of the movie, I was absolutely disgusted by her. She's shallow, unrefined in her morals/philosophy/ideals, willingly self-destructive, and in my opinion said some darn retarded things. I'll be the first one to admit that I may be under the influence of Asian prudishness but I think any culture would find her motivations and actions reprehensible. The documentary itself, I think, wasn't as well done. Still, overall, I hated the person in the movie.

But these two movies in juxtaposition is really interesting. Having seen Porn Star first, I was probably biased towards being sympathetic towards the porn industry and its participants. On the other hand if Annabel Chong were the type of person that pervades the porn industry, then dear lord how can they live with themselves. Of course, like anything, it ends up being a great heterogeneous mass. For those interested in looking into an industry/field that's not frequently studied (at least not from behind the scenes), both movies are intriguing. I personally could barely sit through the latter and I would skip it if I were you but Porn Star is worth checking out.

Personally though, there was a time between the time I switched away from computer science and before I chose music theory...I was thinking...I could also be a male porn actor! But I think I made the right choice to stick with music theory, much to the delight of me, my parents, and the people of the world who aren't blind (who were cringing with horror at the aforementioned idea, understandably).

FORGOT: Best quote of "Sex: The Annabel Chong Story".

"it's almost like...a slap in the face to say that porno is really sleazy...I mean I guess it is..." [Luke's editorial remark: WTF?]--Some dumbass producer in the pron industry
