YUM!
Oeshii!!!!!!
Supposedly the best Ramen in the bay area, "Santa Ramen" is a little shop at the outer reaches of San Mateo downtown. One chef, at most one or two helpers, and a couple waitresses run a restaurant that seats about 20 people at maximum. There is always a line (only one chef after all) and wait but oh my lord was it worth it. The main menu is on the wall, with a choice of pork, soy sauce, or soy bean flavored soup base and various toppings (roast pork, stewed pork, cabbage, seaweed, and the like). Extra cabbage and extra noodle is a must for anyone with a decent appetite.
But lord is it good. I wolfed my portion down far too fast, but couldn't stop myself. The soup (I had pork base) tasted almost creamy, as if some milk had been added. The decor isn't anything to write home about and you don't get anything fancy. For that one bowl of ramne though, I'd go back every night for a week if I could. If you're ever in the San Mateo area, definitely try to find out where "Santa Ramen" is and eat a bowl. There'll be a long wait (both to get seated and to get your food) but is it ever worth it. God I'm hungry now...
