Forearm Exercise to the Max
Bouldered on Sunday and then again today. I've moved up from V0 to V0+ and V1 (some). The bouldering rating system (at least at Planet Granite but I suspect at most other places as well) goes from V0 to as high as V7. V0 being "HAHA! You n00b! Sucketh thou do!" to V7 requiring you to do a triple lutz from one teeny rock to another grab 5 feet above you, with a baby in your hand. Of course, these are subjective ratings so you get a bit of variation. I can do some V1s on the first try but a V0+ was giving me trouble until today. I also tried what was supposedly a V3 (where you go from one side of a small arch to the other) but I couldn't figure out where the route goes after a certain point...was doing fine up to that point though. In any case, I think I'm getting better at balancing and figuring out routes. Still, what a killer sport for my forearms. An hour and a half of mostly non-stop bouldering and I can't even do some of the V0s anymore...just no grip strength left. What fun though. Going again Thursday to do some vertical climbing (5.8s and 5.9s). Hope my forearms work again by then...
