World's Funniest Joke
Last I heard, the world's funniest joke went like this [wiki wiki wiki!]:
Wenn ist das Nunstuck git und slotermeyer? Ja! Beiherhund das oder die flipperwald gersput!
Having this at the center of a Monty Python sketch, however, turned the entire sketch into a joke, or rather, a meta-joke. And there was much rejoicing [yay].

Little did I know (and little do I still know), there was a real "objective" study done on "the world's funniest joke" by some scientists (who probably were humorless and had too much time on their hands). After an impartial vote by random people from countless cultures, this was the winning entry:

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy takes out his phone and calls the emergency services.
He gasps: "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says: "Calm down, I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a gunshot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says: "OK, now what?"
This was announced way back in 2001 [BBC] and you can find the actual lab here.

But couldn't you see that punchline coming from about a googol miles away? I don't find it all that funny...just another groaner at best. CNN later reports that a questionably interesting and dubitably odd finding: Germans, who are not renowned for their sense of humor, find almost everything funny. That seems logical to me and actually supports the accepted Teutonic stereotype. Speaking of German jokes, here is Hitler's best:

Zwei peanuts ver valking down die Strasse. Vun vuz a salted.
Good night everybody!
