The Music Room - Prelim
Succumbing to my music nerdiness and frugality, I picked up "The Music Room" By Dennis McFarland for about 4 dollars. Only a few (20-30) pages into it currently but it has made a strong impression on me. It starts in media res and continues its diregard for linear time with memories and reminiscences galore. I suppose that is to be expected when one starts a book with the suicide of the narrator's brother. But what really catches me is the vivid descriptions. How trite, I know, but all aspects of events both past and present in the narrator's mind is subtly yet concisely conveyed. Characters, objects, and thoughts develop in a matter of mere paragraphs (incredible to me!) into entities both wonderous and intriguing. I can say now that even if the book were to only continues in its present fashion realizing the most elegant and synaesthetic descriptions, I would not complain one bit. If only I could write like that!
