It's Like Christmas
...except I'm the only buying and receiving the presents. But boy, talk about inferring priorities and passions from receipts. Today, a Benjamin Franklin ran away from my wallet (approximately) and he was composed of the following:
  • 30% Books (3 more! Couldn't resist sale...) - Bangkok 8, Middlesex, and The Reluctant Metrosexual (OK, I bought that for the name).
  • 10% Classical CDs: Resphigi (All aspects of Rome) and Gibbons (mmmm..choral polyphony)
  • 30% Dinner - Sushi, sake, tempura ice cream, edamame. I don't think I'll ever have a natto roll again but it was interesting to try.
  • 15% Chocolates - This was a splurge and a stocking up, but still
  • 5% Wine - Couldn't pass up a Beringer Shiraz. A '99 too!
  • 10% Errata - Didn't actually spend it but add it in for an even 100%. Probably would be spent on gas though, driving around the car for fun.
And a temporal break down would be as follows:
  • 10/24 - Sleeping and lounging
  • 1/24 - Grooming
  • 2/24 - Piano
  • 2/24 - Reading
  • 1/24 - Prince of Persia - Sands of Time
  • 5/24 - Activities outside the abode
  • 1/24 - Combined slacking
  • 1/24 - Chores
  • 1/24 - Stuff
But enough with quantizing my life. The whole point of this post was to remind myself to curb my interests...

Curb your interests? Why?

Well because if I don't, the mafiosissimi will come after my knees and left index finger when I can't pay them back. They'll also liquidate all my assets and invest themin emerging markets in Uzbekistan (a failed joke I've used one too many times) Or rather, my interests will be forcibly curbed when my personal monetary (liquid) worth is reduced to $0. I'm not exactly rolling in dough to the point where I can splurge $100 a day. It will be never before that happens.

As long as they won't go for the Achilles...

But anyway, while you spent $100 that day, it looks like you've stocked up for maybe two leisurely weekends indoors with books, wine and chocolates. Sounds like a bargain overall.

I do plenty of damage to my own Achilles and whatever mass of tendons and pads are under my patella so actually they'll probably go and write "Wagner is my Lord" all over my piano music. *shudder*.

But yes, I suppose you're right. Wine and chocolates and good books for a couple of weekends is a decent deal for $100. Now if only I didn't have to spend 50 times that on my car =)
