Shanghai - Summer of 2004

So the China trip is over and done with and post-processing has started. Haven't gone through all my photos yet so no gallery for you! At least not yet. I decided to highlight the main points of the trip though. First, there was a lot of flying. SFO to NRT, then to PVG, then to SFO, then to DFW, then PVD, then CHI, then back to SFO. I was pretty much drooling and being retarded for most of those flights except for the SFO->NRT. Spent my time taking pictures of clouds, reading, and eating nasty plane food on that flight. Look at the purty clouds.

So what's fun about Shanghai? Since I spent many of my childhood years there, seeing family is numero uno priority. My relatives can be pretty crazy though, and we party (read: eat out) whenever we get an excuse. Actually, Shanghai to me is pretty much one big culinary experience. So family and food, what more could you want?

I also spent some time at WuYi Mountain, a fairly famous native tourist destination. Pretty mountains to hike up and down. The famous Chinese mountains tend to be vertical slabs of rock rather than the ginormous geological phenonmena that are the rockies or the alps. They definitely have their own unique charm. I think the god(s) or buddha or whatever potent entity god fed up with my taking gimmicky photos such as the one above and decided to smite me. Or rather, my camera: my F717 took a nasty spill, the result of which is a shattered UV filter and a crooked zoom ring/outer casing. The latter was fixed and the camera works, but not all of the parts fit together quite as well as before. Woe.

After that little trip with my dad, I returned to Shanghai for more dining and, well, more dining. Shanghai, food, same thing. I leave you with a shot of a bit of Shanghai at night. This is from one of my aunt's apartment looking out into the city over YanAn highway. Shanghai pretty much looks like that all over, except some places have many more skyscrapers. It's a big city, but I'm glad I feel comfortable in it. It is halfway my hood after all, despite the fact that I was never really a hoodlum in it (I was in crazy gangsta-filled Lincoln, Rhode Island instead).

Like the pictures. I will be in Long Beach in October if you aren't too deep in school hell.

Long Beach isn't too far away. Maybe I'll give you a ring in October and see if I can meet you down there. You coming through Santa Barbara at all?

Hi Luke,

I hope school is going well for you. Nice shots of Shanghai. I received a letter in the mail for you. Would you mind sending me your address so I can mail it to you. It's from Prudential Financial (Prudential real estate & relocation). Maybe it's just something to be tossed?

Take care.
