Hoarding Urges
Note to self: It's the only thing that can explain (besides a wish to make myself literate) my dropping too much money on book everytime there is a book sale. Got the Life of Pi recently. One book. But then UCSB had a book sale and in came the portable Marx reader (reference), The Canon of Classical Music Recordsing (David Dubal), Beowulf (Heaney version), and Twisted (Gregory Macguire), and The Music Room again (my old copy went to mom and I still want a copy for myself). Not bad for $40.00 though. Wicked and Beowulf are going to go on the reading list after Life of Pi (Martel) and amidst "More Stories from My Father's Court" (Singer). The Dubal is going to be great reference for recording to get and Marx is for class/edification. To be read at my "leisure." Mmmm...books. Now I want a polarizer, UV filter, and a skylight filter (3 for 28 on ebay!).

I'm interested to see what your reaction to Life of Pi will be. I seem to be the lone dissenting voice, but that is because the author made a huge promise to the reader which I entered in good faith, and was sorely disappointed as a result. Boo hoo it's lonely at the bottom of the pit. >)

The last 30 books I've bought were all reference books. It's sad, I have lost all interest in fiction.

Shryh: will post my reactions. I'm sure you're just too ahead of the times and the rest of us will eventually realize our errors. But let us make those mistakes: you can gloat about it later =P

Paul: Fiction, I've found, is the only effective foil to all the academic reading I read. Without fiction, my life would be...well, too "real".

Fashion magazines and comics were my "fiction" in college. Faster reads, you see, though they ended up costing more than if I'd bought 4 new books a month. I like to finish a novel in one sitting when possible: reading in snatches drives me crazy.
