Mileage: 3.3 miles
Time: I dunno, something like 10 min. / mile
Feeling: Good

Officially signed up for the Big Sur International Marathon. Now I have about 15 weeks to train. Ran a bit November of last year but then conferences, finals, papers, and the holiday got in the way. But now I need to train for real. Like fer rils man, fer rils.

Lesson of the day: just run. Deciding to run without a watch was one of the better life choices I've made recently, thanks to advice from Al who just ran a marathon not too long ago. I also learned that my arithmetic is shit now. Was doing powers of 2's slowly and my last accurate doubling was 8,388,608 and then I somehow got off and arrived at 44 million something or other before I realized that I was way off. How did I ever even get to 22 million? Oh, also, run slowly. 10 min. per mile is a pretty shitty pace but 1) My legs don't break on me 2) I feel fine through the run and 3) 1 and 2 allows me to continue to push up the mileage.

Accelerated schedule calls for 4 miles tomorrow, 3 miles Thursday, and I'm deciding a 6-7 mile run on Saturday. I remember when we wouldn't run any more than 5 miles or so on a "long day" in cross country in high school and that was halfway into the season. Hope I can do 6 now with 3 days of training.

Good luck with the training! I just started running again recently, and I'm only doing about 4km. It's only for fitness' sake though, there's no time dependent goal in mind, so I'm in no hurry. As soon as I get a decent MP3 player that I can take running, Japanese audio lessons will help with distraction, I hope.

Thanks! I hope to keep to my sechedule. Not thinking about time really helps and so does active distraction. By the time I realized I was having trouble getting past 8 million or so, a mile went by quickly :) Good luck with your running too.

hey, you can't say "fer rils". I say that. And if we both say the same thing then people are going to start thinking we're the same person. I don't know if I can take that kind of a comparison. Plus, your name really isn't Luke.
