Finally! http://gallery.lukema.net/ has gone online and will host such photo albums as I decide to put up there. It is rather sparse now but will be filled in with a subset of my 2300 or so pics on my hard drive. And, of course, future albums will go here as well. Go and destroy my measly bandwidth quota!
For the geek part of the post: I now manage my photos with Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 and it does an ok job for the most part. The web gallery function, however, sucks with a ferocity that rivals the greatest sucks of all suckings. It really blows. Solution: rewrite their web gallery "styles," which are just html pages with some strings (which look like "%FILENAME%"). The result is what you see. Only drawback for me: no EXIF data displayed. Did you really want to know what shutter speed and ISO I took these pics at though?
