April 5th
The inflammation has been going down although the knee still feels weak somehow...not sure how. Reading up on ITBS, most info seems to OK starting training again once I have full range of motion in my leg without pain, which I definitely do now. Meaning a slow (I mean it this time) 5 mile test run tomorrow morning. With less than 3 weeks to go, I'm rather frightened of the Big Sur. It is hilly too, and certainly not one of the easier marathons around. Combined with the lack of training time and the ITBS, I'm very nervous.

So I'm really frustrated, but must in the interest of safety revise my goal: Forget 10:00/mile. That should stop me trying to keep up a sub 9:30 pace for the first 13 miles. No more watches on my runs. I want to just finish the marathon (I can deal with under 5:00), preferably with my my left leg intact even if in pain. Then I want to really heal and train for another marathon (San Diego Rock 'n Roll?) and throw in a half-marathon somewhere (Santa Barbara News Press? I KNOW I can do a half, but how fast?). Then I want to run more marathons (big sur again?) over and over again until I qualify for the Boston Marathon and I won't stop running until I do! I'll even do ultra-marathons if it takes that! *storms off*
