Been neglecting this outlet for a while because truly, not much has been going on. Working (for Cisco) more now that the Marathon is done. Letting my legs rest and heal and working on upper body strength instead in the meantime. Anyway, instead of trying to write something about, you know, something, I'm awaiting the muse to hit me upside the head. In the meantime, I checked back in with my list of resolutions. Let's see how I'm doing:
Procrastinate less (why am I writing this entry..uh...)
Nope. Just...nope.
Run the Big Sur International Marathon and officially finish.
This one I did. Post here if you missed my glorious accomplishment.
Read more books: attempt to become half as literate as I try to sound...
Meh...kind of. More than last year, at least.
Listen to more music: attempt to become half as musically literate as I try to sound, no pun intended...
Meh...also kind of. Again, a bit more than last year at least.
Stop being so damned inconsistent
See procrastination.
Advance to candidacy and have a clue about my dissertation topic
This will happen happen probably either this December-ish or January-ish Keep in touch with friends better
Oops...
Stop buying toys/gadgets
Success! For the most part. No more toys and gadgets. (It's furniture now!)
Make it to England in March
Nope. Not enough time.
Make it to Boston for SMT national for November

I RULE!
Teach better (I still feel bad for my students...)
Hmmm, well I'm not teaching any worse
Be able to hold a basic conversation with somebody in Japanese...
Done. I can even tell them that what they're offering is too expensive and that I can get it cheaper in Thailand. Hey! Mind out of the gutter!
a somewhat less basic one in French, and at least be able to read German alright...
Not yet...
Be able to play, polished, the second movement of the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor
Ha! Not yet. Started practicing the Chopin 1st piano concerto again though...
Get better at sight-reading
Ever so slowly, but yes, getting better
Resolve to achieve a good number of these resolutions solidly (a meta-resolution!)
Half on track so far.
Stop wasting time making lists like these and start doing things.
NEVER!
This will happen happen probably either this December-ish or January-ish

I RULE!
So I don't know what kind of a score that is supposed to be. But I got into SMT nationals and I finished a Marathon. That's something. Looking forward to more in the next half: new apartment, another marathon, the actual SMT presentation, a master's degree (by the end of the year, give or take a month), a trip to China, a trip to Indonesia (I hope), a trip back to RI, and my first track day (I hope).
