My pilgrimage to Shanghai (for food and relatives) has become an annual occurence now. Just dropped nearly $1100 on a ticket to Shanghai. Cheapest I could find was around 960 but I don't get useful miles with AA so I decided to go with Asiana (part of star alliance, accumulates with my UA miles). I already have around 36k with United now and 40k gets me a roundtrip first-class within the states, 50k gets me roundtrip to europe and 60 gets me to asia. LA to Shanghai and back is good for 10k I think so I'm on my way. Schedule as follows:
